| Siyayinqoba Beat It!
Siyayinqoba Beat It! is the only show in the world made exclusively for and by people living with HIV. Siyayinqoba Beat It! is a documentary show which covers a particular HIV-relevant topic per episode. The show is hosted by Shalom Ncala and the Beat It! support group.
The show was broadcast by eTV in 1999, 2000 and 2002. Siyayinqoba Beat It! is completing its 3rd series with SABC Education and SABC 1. The programme has grown. It is regularly drawing over 500 000 viewers, roughly 15 share, with an average AR of 2.35.
Siyayinqoba Beat It! remains a niche programme, but unlike other niches (e.g. a gardening show) affects the lives and human rights of the “poorest of the poor” as well as the middle classes. Our market spreads from LSM 1-3 (those not included in the AR measurement, but who do watch television) through to LSM 4-10 which comprises the whole spectrum of the population. At the same time, it appeals to male and female, young but also middle aged people, as well as people of all ethnic backgrounds. This is a uniquely broad position for a niche programme. There is almost no topic imaginable that cannot be treated “… & HIV.”
Idol Pictures has been the facility house for Siyayinqoba Beat It! since 1999 and continues to enjoy a close relationship with Community Health Media Trust.
